Tokenomics Statistics (2026)
Of the 212 non-stablecoin tokens in CoinGecko’s top 250, 143 (67.5%) list a maximum supply, and the median of those has 74.8% of it circulating as of October 2, 2026. Fully diluted value exceeds market cap by $250.4B in total, 8.6% of fully diluted value. Bitcoin is 95.7% mined.
Key takeaways
- 143 of 212 top-250 non-stablecoin tokens (67.5%) list a maximum supply on CoinGecko; 69 list none.
- Among those 143, the median token has 74.8% of its maximum supply circulating, and 40 are below 50%.
- Summed across the 212 tokens, fully diluted value is $250.4B above market cap, so 8.6% of fully diluted value is supply already created but not circulating, and tokens not yet created up to a maximum are excluded.
- The median token’s fully diluted value is 1.07x its market cap; 37 of 212 are at 2.00x or more.
- Bitcoin has 95.7% of its 21 million cap in circulation; Ethereum has no maximum supply listed.
- The data holds no unlock dates, so none of these figures says when tokens will arrive.
How many top cryptocurrencies have a fixed supply cap?
143 of the 212 non-stablecoin tokens (67.5%) list a maximum supply on CoinGecko as of October 2, 2026, and 69 list none. A blank maximum means CoinGecko lists no cap, not that the protocol has none. The 143 tokens with a listed cap hold 79.3% of the pool’s market value.
1. 143 of 212 tokens list a maximum supply (67.5%)
The pool is 212 tokens: the top 250 by market cap, minus 35 in CoinGecko’s stablecoin category, minus 3 more that price within 3% of $1.00 with an all-time high within 1% of today (a few $1-priced tokens that fail the second test stay in), with 0 unranked excluded. The count uses CoinGecko’s max_supply field (WealthyBud data · 212 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
2. 69 tokens have no listed maximum, led by Ethereum
The three largest without one are Ethereum ($328.7B), Solana ($70.6B), TRON (TRX) ($31.9B). CoinGecko’s coin pages label the field “Max Supply = Theoretical maximum as coded” (Ethereum page), so a blank means CoinGecko records no coded maximum; WealthyBud has not checked each protocol (WealthyBud data · 69 tokens without a listed maximum · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
3. Tokens with a listed cap hold 79.3% of pool market value
Their combined market cap is $2.12T of the pool’s $2.67T. Share of market cap is lower than share of tokens (67.5%) (WealthyBud data · 212 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
- The 143 tokens with a listed cap are the only ones used for circulating-versus-maximum figures.
- The 69 without one are still counted in fully diluted value, which uses a different supply figure.
How much of the maximum supply is already circulating?
Among the 143 tokens with a listed maximum, the median has 74.8% of it circulating as of October 2, 2026. 27 tokens sit at 99% or more and 40 are below 50%. Tokens above 100% reflect CoinGecko figures that disagree, so they are shown as reported.
4. Median circulating share of maximum supply: 74.8%
Computed as circulating supply divided by maximum supply for 143 tokens; tokens with no listed maximum are left out (WealthyBud data · 143 tokens with a listed maximum · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
5. 27 tokens have 99% or more circulating; 10 have under 25%
Another 22 sit between 90% and 99%, and 54 between 50% and 90% (WealthyBud data · 143 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
6. 2 tokens report more circulating than maximum supply
CoinGecko lists circulating supply above its listed maximum for these; WealthyBud keeps them at their reported values and does not explain the gap (WealthyBud data · 143 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
7. Among 44 tokens worth $1 billion or more, Pi Network has the smallest circulating share (11.2%)
The $1 billion guard keeps tiny-cap tokens from topping the list; it leaves 44 of the 143 tokens (WealthyBud data · 44 tokens with market cap of $1B or more and a listed maximum · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
| Circulating ÷ maximum | Tokens |
|---|---|
| 99% or more | 27 |
| 90% to under 99% | 22 |
| 50% to under 90% | 54 |
| 25% to under 50% | 30 |
| Under 25% | 10 |
Track the top cryptocurrencies by market cap
How big is the gap between market cap and fully diluted value?
Across the 212 tokens, fully diluted value (FDV) totals $2.92T against $2.67T of market cap, a $250.4B gap as of October 2, 2026. That gap is the value of tokens already created but not circulating, at today’s price. It excludes tokens not yet created. It is arithmetic, not a forecast of selling.
8. FDV exceeds market cap by $250.4B, or 8.6% of FDV
CoinGecko defines it this way: “FDV is calculated using the formula Token Price X Total Supply, which gives a projection of the cryptocurrency’s market cap when all tokens are in circulation.” The gap is WealthyBud’s calculation from CoinGecko fields (WealthyBud data · 212 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
9. Median FDV is 1.07x market cap; 37 tokens are at 2.00x or more
102 of 212 tokens sit under 1.05x, which means CoinGecko’s total supply is close to its circulating supply (WealthyBud data · 212 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
10. 92 tokens have FDV within 0.5% of market cap
56 of them list a maximum supply and 36 do not. CoinGecko’s own explainer says: “For some cryptocurrencies, there are no FDV statistics because these tokens do not have a max supply.” Every token here carries an FDV, and WealthyBud observed that for 207 of 212 it matches price times total supply within 1%, including tokens with no maximum; that is our check, not a CoinGecko rule (WealthyBud data · 212 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
11. Hyperliquid accounts for the largest gap ($65.5B)
XRP follows at $55.5B and WhiteBIT Coin (WBT) at $14.8B. Together the three make up 54.2% of the $250.4B total (WealthyBud data · 212 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
12. Another $174.5B sits outside FDV: tokens not yet created up to a listed maximum
FDV uses total supply, so it omits supply that does not exist yet. WealthyBud’s calculation, price times (maximum minus total supply) summed over the 143 tokens with a listed maximum, gives $174.5B; 56 have total supply more than 0.05% below maximum. Bitcoin (BTC) accounts for $77.3B and BNB for $51.7B (WealthyBud data · 143 tokens with a listed maximum · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
Which tokens have the most supply still to unlock?
This dataset has no unlock dates, so it cannot say which tokens unlock next. It does show which tokens have the largest share of FDV created but not yet circulating. Among 65 tokens worth $1 billion or more, Hyperliquid leads at 4.29x FDV to market cap, or 76.7% of its FDV.
13. Among 65 tokens of $1 billion or more, the median FDV is 1.06x market cap
10 of the 65 are at 2.00x or more. The $1 billion guard keeps small tokens with extreme ratios out of the ranking (WealthyBud data · 65 tokens with market cap of $1B or more · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
14. Hyperliquid has 76.7% of its FDV not yet circulating
Its market cap is $19.9B against an FDV of $85.4B. “Share not yet circulating” is 1 minus market cap over FDV, and counts only tokens already created; the data does not say when or whether those tokens will circulate (WealthyBud data · 65 tokens · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
| Token | Market cap | FDV | FDV ÷ market cap |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hyperliquid | $19.9B | $85.4B | 4.29x |
| Bitway (BTW) | $3.9B | $14.4B | 3.69x |
| World Liberty Financial (WLFI) | $1.8B | $5.7B | 3.15x |
| Aster | $2.0B | $5.8B | 2.88x |
| Worldcoin (WLD) | $2.2B | $5.7B | 2.64x |
| WhiteBIT Coin (WBT) | $10.1B | $24.9B | 2.47x |
| Sui | $4.8B | $11.7B | 2.43x |
| MemeCore | $2.4B | $5.7B | 2.38x |
| Jupiter | $1.1B | $2.3B | 2.07x |
| Ondo | $2.5B | $5.0B | 2.05x |
How does bitcoin’s supply schedule compare?
Bitcoin has 95.7% of its 21 million maximum in circulation as of October 2, 2026, with about 907,566 BTC left to be created. The bitcoin.org FAQ says only 21 million bitcoins will ever be created. That is far above the median 74.8% for other tokens with a listed maximum.
15. Bitcoin is 95.7% mined: 20,092,434 of 21,000,000 BTC
Bitcoin.org states: “Bitcoin is unique in that only 21 million bitcoins will ever be created.” WealthyBud divides CoinGecko’s circulating supply by 21,000,000; the bitcoin statistics page reaches the same 95.7% from on-chain supply (WealthyBud data · bitcoin · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
16. About 907,566 BTC remain to be created
That is 21,000,000 minus circulating supply. Bitcoin.org adds that issuance halts completely “with a total of 21 million bitcoins in existence.” The issue pace is covered in bitcoin halving statistics (WealthyBud data · bitcoin · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
17. Bitcoin’s FDV is 1.00x its market cap
Bitcoin has a market cap of $1.71T and an FDV of $1.71T, so almost no created supply sits outside circulation. FDV uses total supply, so it leaves out the 907,566 BTC (4.3% of the cap) not yet mined (WealthyBud data · bitcoin · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
How does Ethereum’s supply work?
CoinGecko lists no maximum supply for Ether, and 122,098,690 ETH circulate as of October 2, 2026. ethereum.org says ETH supply has two forces, issuance and burn. It gives no net issuance figure, and this page publishes none. Ether’s FDV equals its market cap in this data.
18. 122,098,690 ETH circulate, with no maximum listed
Ethereum is the largest of the 69 tokens with no listed maximum, at $328.7B. Its FDV is 1.00x market cap (WealthyBud data · ethereum · CoinGecko · October 2, 2026).
19. ethereum.org: ETH supply has two forces, issuance and burn
The ethereum.org issuance page (last updated June 6, 2026) says: “We can break the supply of ETH into two primary forces: issuance and burn.” It adds: “The burning of ETH is when existing ETH gets destroyed, removing it from circulation.”
20. EIP-1559 fee burn removes the base fee from circulation
The ethereum.org gas page says: “When the block is created this base fee is "burned", removing it from circulation.” The page links the EIP-1559 documentation. Because burning depends on network demand, this page publishes no net-issuance estimate.
- Bitcoin’s cap is fixed by its rules at 21 million, so its supply only grows toward that number.
- Ether has no maximum on CoinGecko, so circulating-versus-maximum math does not apply to it.
- Both coins show an FDV equal to market cap in this data, because CoinGecko’s total supply is within 0.01% of circulating supply for each.
What this means for crypto buyers
For supply checks, read the maximum supply field as CoinGecko’s record, not the protocol’s promise. 69 of 212 tokens list none.
For comparing tokens, look at circulating share and FDV together. The median token has 74.8% of its listed maximum in circulation and an FDV of 1.07x market cap.
For timing, this data cannot say when supply arrives. Check each project’s own schedule before treating $250.4B of created-but-not-circulating value as a risk or a non-event. For price context see crypto all-time high statistics and the number of cryptocurrencies.
